Moroccan Inspired Grill Chicken - NOMU Spice (Recipe & Review)

Monday, March 28, 2016

I love trying new spices especially to experience the feel on another culture,
I feel there's always an adventure to go on even with food.
This rub caught my eye in Pick 'n' Pay to be exact,
there were a few more but this one drew me because it was different that the spices I have.

The Moroccan Rub: "It is an exotic blend of North African spices
to add warmth and depth to your dishes."

         The slogan for NOMU is

NOMU is halal!!
Literally that was the first thing I checked for when I picked it up, which really made me happy.
Sometimes it's so difficult to get a variety of spices that are halal certified.
The brand is also South African, so it's always best to support local spices and products.

NOMU has a wide range of products from grinders, rubs, baking kits to olive oil and much more.
The packaging is of great quality, compact and reusable which is always great.
With the amount you get you can be sure it will last you a while and its's affordable!
The minute I opened it the aroma of the blend blew me away, it smelled that good!

This overall really pushed me to give it a shot and review it for my viewers immediately.
I did add some few other spices to give it more of a kick,
but the bases of the spice was really mouth watering and can be used just as.

You can use it of chicken, mutton, beef, give it a shot in pastas and also a little sprinkle of veggies.

The rubs come in a tin with 65g.

Ingredients: sugar, cumin, lodated salt, coriander, black pepper, parsley, cinnamon, chilli, ginger, nutmeg, turmeric, cloves, orange oil.

NO added MSG
NO artificial additives

Price: R29.95 (ZAR)

Now on NOMU's website they offer 'free delivery' on all hampers as well as orders over R500!! To your door - only in South Africa.
They do deliver world wide as well, you can select at the bottom to see for a distributor closer to you and shop online.  A little goes a long way with such spices, a lot of flavor is packed in just a tablespoon of the spice so you won't be sorry, also for international customers you will find this super affordable.

All in all I give this brand a huge thumbs up, I haven't read or came across NOMU before in the food blogging community but I am defiantly a fan now and will be keeping my eyes open for other rubs/products from this brand.
In my opinion it's a must for every kitchen especially the Moroccan Rub.

    1. It was the first time I tried a Moroccan spice, I must say the spices and flavour is very similar to Indian cuisine. They do ship worldwide and through airmail so it is available to those who cannot access such spices.

    1. For the red chilli paste I use home made one, it's just ground red chillis with ground ginger and crushed garlic.
I have just updated the post with an up close picture of the Himalayan salt :)

    1. Yes super easy especially for a quick meal :) I'm not so keen on ready made spice packs because they're not as fresh but this really was and I felt it's great to keep in the kitchen.

I was surprised as well since I haven't tried it before, but it tasted amazing, and so fresh, the minute I opened the tub it smelled and tasted like I had just blended the spices together.

    1. It's not a super dry dish, as much as I liked grilled food I don't like it to be dry, the chicken came out very moist and also there was sauce in the grill pan to eat with the chicken so it was great. Key is to add water and oil to the pan and not let it over cook otherwise it will dry out. Inshallah do give it a shot :)

    Little curious.

    1. I just used the gravy left from when the chicken grilled because it was quite saucy. If you like it fully grilled with no leftover sauce you can just add little less water before grilling.
