Apple and Lemon Slushie

Friday, December 23, 2016

Okay I know most of my international viewers are probably looking at this title and pictures and thinking I'm crazy for sharing a homemade slushie at this time of the year!

But on my side of the world its SUMMER!!

That mean's we're melting and fresh home made juices or slushies is perfect right now

Bookmark this for those in winter, when summer rolls around this is great to make
for the family especially for bbq's.

You can serve it as just a juice as well
if you're in a hurry.
Also if you serve as a juice you can add back a bit of the apple and lemon that was left from straining back into the juice and stir well.
This will bring some texture into the drink.

INGREDIENTS

3 Granny Smith Apples
3 Lemons
1/2 cup Passion Fruit Cordial
1/2 cup Lime Cordial
1 1/2 cups Sugar
1 cup Granadilla Pulp

  • I prefer green apples over the red for the drink.
  • I also have tried different brands of cordials but I love the brand Rose's over the rest.
  • You can use fresh granadilla but you also get them prepacked in tins or tubs.

METHOD

  1. Cube your apples with the peel but remove all seeds.
  2. Liquidise the apples with 750ml water and strain.
  3. Next cut the lemons with the peel again removing all the seeds.
  4. Liquidise the chopped lemons in 750ml of water as well and strain.
  5. Thereafter, combine the strained apple and lemon mixtures.
  6. Add the sugar, both cordials and the granadilla pulp to the mixture and stir well.
  7. Next freeze the mixture in a closed container till semi frozen.
  8. Serve as slush and garnish with mint leaves.

I hope you enjoy this recipe and it refreshes you especially during a hot summer day.

With the holidays around the corner and family braais/bbqs this is a quick way to fill up that buffet table and also try something new

We love trying new drinks out, this works best as both juice and slushie!

Please note this is not my recipe, I know it was shared by a lovely lady on a facebook food group.
The pictures are however mine.
