Looking to make something light and filling in this heat this is the meal for you.
You can also make mini versions for your child's lunch box,
this is great as a starter or if you're like my family it can be lunch.

I did use Aminas Portuguese Marinade and Sauce for this recipe,
but just in case you cannot get your hands on some,
you can use ány dry Portuguese rub
and if you cannot get that you can substitute it for
any peri-peri sauce you have around.

- MARINADE INGREDIENTS -

6 - 7 Pieces Chicken Fillet
4 Tbsp Amina's Portuguese Marinade and Sauce
1 1/2 tsp Robertson's Portuguese Spice
1 Tbsp Red Chili Paste
1 tsp Fresh Ginger Paste
1 tsp Freshly Crushed Garlic
1/2 tsp Turmeric
2 tsp Red Chili Powder
1 tsp Coriander Powder
1 1/2 tsp Lemon Pepper
1 tsp Salt
2 Tbsp Mayo
2 tsp Lemon Juice

If you cannot get your hand on Portuguese spice/marinade, you can make a quick version at home. Mix together; garlic powder, salt, sweet paprika, ground black pepper, cumin, peri peri spice or cayenne pepper. You can add extra lemon juice if you want the rub saucy.

- SAUCE INGREDIENTS -

1 Tbsp Butter
4 Tbsp Lemon Juice
2 Tbsp Amina's Portuguese Marinade and Sauce

  1. Cut up your chicken fillet into cubes or strips depending on how you prefer to skew the meat onto the skewers.
  2. Marinate your chicken pieces in the marinade ingredients.
  3. You can either grill on the stove, in the oven or even bbq/braai depending on what you prefer.
  4. If you're cooking your chicken skewers on the braai/bbq stand use the sauce to baste your chicken so it doesn't dry out as it cooks. If you're grilling the chicken skewers on the stove or oven, than 10 minutes before you serve heat up the sauce and pour over the kebab skewers.
  5. Garnish with fresh coriander, serve with yogurt chutney, potato chips and salad.

  1. Yummy! This looks like a Nando's inspired dish! Can you recommend a substitute for if you live in an area where peri-peri seasoning is pretty sparse. Is there a spice combination I can use to mimic it? Thanks for the mouthwatering pics and recipe as always!

    1. You could use nando's sauces to change the recipe up a bit. Hmm I remember being told one day that if you mix garlic powder, pepper, cayenne pepper, dry crushed oregano and paprika it's close to the same thing.

    1. Garlic powder, salt, paprika, black pepper, cumin, peri peri spice or cayenne pepper. I sometimes forget that not everyone has access to Portuguese spices or sauces easily, so the spices I listed in the starting is a go-to recipe.
