Nashville Hot Honey Chicken Burger

"Me 🫱🏼🫲🏽 Hot Honey - locked in for life."
Lately, I’ve developed a full-blown obsession with Hot Honey, and
honestly, I’m not mad about it. It all started after I made my
Nashville Hot Honey Mozzarella Sticks (click
here for the recipe), and since then I’ve been dreaming up new
ways to use that sweet-heat combo. These
Nashville Hot Honey Chicken Burgers were the natural next step,
delivering crispy chicken, sticky glaze and serious flavour in every
bite.
One element that really brings balance to these burgers is the dressing.
Any light, creamy dressing works well, but I genuinely think Homemade Ranch Dressing is the
perfect match here. I’ve shared this recipe before (click
here
for the recipe), and it adds that cool, herby contrast that ties all the
flavours together beautifully without overpowering the burger.
Now, let’s talk Slaw, because texture matters. You can use a
ready-made slaw mix if you’re short on time, but I kept it simple by using
what I had in the fridge, by finely shredding lettuce, cabbage and
carrots. Tossed with a quick slaw dressing (healthy recipe
coming soon), it added the perfect crisp
bite to the burgers.
I’ll be honest, I was really unwell when I made these, and I genuinely
think I may have had a new strain of Covid at the time. Even so, I still
needed to shoot this half prepped recipe, which was a challenge. Cooking, plating and shooting through it was one thing, but
editing the content afterwards was quite an interesting, seeing
how unwell me did what she had to do.
Now, because I was feeling so rough the day I actually made this, I was
knocked out right after cleaning up, I didn't even taste it. My mum ended
up freezing the remaining unfried chicken and sauce, while storing the homemade ranch
dressing and slaw in airtight containers in the fridge. Some days later,
we got to enjoy these burgers and they were delicious. It really highlighted how
well this recipe can be prepped in advance.

4 Tbsp Hot Sauce
2 Tbsp Honey
Other
3 - 4 Eggs
2 - 3 Cups Breadcrumbs
1 - 2 Cups Frying Oil (can be airfried)
Burger Buns
Method With Pictures
1. Place the chicken breasts on a clean flat surface (chopping board) and use a meat tenderiser to flatten them evenly. This helps the chicken cook quicker and more evenly.
2. Add the chicken fillets to a large bowl and season with salt, black
pepper, garlic powder, onion powder, crushed garlic, paprika, cayenne pepper
and hot sauce (or sriracha). Mix well until the chicken is fully coated,
then cover and marinate for at least 30 minutes.
3. Once marinated, dip each chicken fillet into beaten egg, then coat
thoroughly in breadcrumbs. For extra crispy Nashville hot chicken burgers,
repeat the egg and breadcrumb coating.
4. Prepare the hot honey glaze by adding butter, hot sauce and honey to a
saucepan. Set aside until ready to heat.
5. Prepare a homemade ranch dressing (previously shared Spicy Fusion
Kitchen recipe, click
here) and make a quick slaw, which will be used to assemble the burgers later.
6. Heat enough oil in a frying pan over a medium heat to cover one side of
the chicken; it doesn’t need to be fully deep-fried. After 2 - 3 minutes,
once the oil is hot, carefully add the chicken fillets and fry for 10 -15
minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden and cooked
through.
7. While the chicken is frying, gently heat the hot honey sauce on a low
heat until smooth, glossy and warmed through.
8. Once the chicken is crispy and fully cooked, brush or toss each fillet
in the hot honey glaze, coating both sides generously.
9. To assemble the Nashville hot honey burgers, first toast the buns, next
spread a generous layer of homemade ranch dressing on the inside of each
toasted bun. Place the glazed crispy chicken on the bottom bun and top with
a generous portion of slaw.
10. Close the bun and serve immediately while hot, ideally with a side of
spicy chips for the perfect finish.
