Cheeseburger Crunchwrap
Wednesday, May 11, 2022"So...we meat again"
I cannot begin to tell you how delicious this turned out! It's one of those meals that's so light yet filling at the same time. This will become one of those easy-to-whip up recipes, perfect for days when you have no time, you don't want to be in the kitchen too long, or you don't know what to make.
A couple of ago the Crunchwrap Supreme went viral, and I've shared my version of it here before. If you'd like to check out my recipe, click here, and for the TikTok video, click here.
I'm using my favourite patties - spinach and feta beef patties. If you follow me on social media, you've seen me make these so many times. These are not homemade, but I do have a smash burger recipe coming out soon, so stay tuned for that. However, this is just my absolute favourite, which I always have in the freezer, and I wanted to use it for this recipe.
There's not really any major "cooking" involved, besides grilling up the patties and toasting your crunch wrap in the end, and/or if you want the extra step of making caramelised onions (which I did).
That is why I said this entire recipe is super quick; it's just about prepping and getting everything ready to throw together, which you can do as you're grilling the patties and making the caramelised onions.
Finally, check out the short FAQ down below, I tried to answer some common questions one may have about making this.
FAQ
Can I Use Smash Burger Patties Instead Of Ready-Made Patties?
Yes, a patty is a patty. It doesn't matter if it's a smash burger patty or a store-bought one. As I mentioned previously, I do have a smash burger recipe coming soon, and it can easily be used in this recipe.
Can I Make It A Double-Decker?
Yes, you can. However, the size of the tortilla you're using will definitely make a difference in whether you will be able to close it and it stays compact. As you can see in the images down below, the tortillas I used were quite big, and that would be the perfect size for a double-decker.
Can I Use Different Sauces?
Yes, go for it! I just used my favourite two, which may not be available to everyone depending on your location. Use your go-to burger sauce.
Do I Need To Toast It In A Panini Press?
No, I just had mine out, so I used it. You can toast it on the stove in a frying pan.
How Do I Keep It Crunchy?
Toasting it gave the tortilla a nice crunch. If you'd prefer more of a crunch, you can add a tostada (small toasted tortilla) or tortilla chips right at the end before you start to fold it closed.
How Did I Keep The Lettuce Crisp In The Crunchwrap?
Okay, so this took a few attempts. I added way more lettuce than I showed in the images, and I didn't toast it for too long on the closed side where the lettuce was. However, I think next time I might try to add a tostada or tortilla chips on top of the lettuce before I close it and see if it really keeps the lettuce crisp. I did that with the crunch wrap supreme (recipe here) and the salad stayed crisp.
How Do I Fold The Crunchwrap?
This is very easy. Again, refer to the picture collage if you need some visuals. But you simply want to bring forward the top part of the leftover tortilla and slowly pleat the leftover sides over one another, going all the way around, till it's completely closed. Fold it tightly so it holds everything together, and it will make toasting it easier as well.

METHOD WITHOUT PICTURES
- Start by grilling the beef patties.
- While they're grilling, you can also make your caramelised onions. On medium heat, add the oil to your pan and let it warm up for a minute, before adding the sliced onions. Let the onions cook, keep turning them around and watch that they do not burn. You want them to soften and turn golden, they should not become crispy. Once they're golden, remove them from the pan and onto a plate, and keep them aside for assembling.
- You can also prep your other ingredients. So keep the lettuce and sliced cocktail tomatoes ready, slice some jalapeños, and make sure your tortillas are at room temperature (they shouldn't be hard or frozen).
- When your beef patties are done (the ones I used took around 15 minutes), add your sliced cheese on top and leave it to melt.
- To assemble your cheeseburger crunchwrap, place some sauce in the centre of your tortilla in a circle roughly the size of the beef patty.
- Place the cheesy beef patty on top of the sauce.
- Next, add the caramelised onions and sliced jalapeños.
- Top with your lettuce, sliced cherry tomatoes and more sauce. I added much more salad than the picture shows. At this point, you can add a tostada (toasted mini tortilla) on top or a layer of tortilla chips, which may give it an extra crunch and may keep the lettuce from becoming soft.
- Now it's time to close the crunch wrap. Fold the top part of the tortilla over the filling, and proceed to gently yet tightly fold the other sides, one on top of each other, going all the way around till it's closed (refer to the picture collage for a reference).
- Add the crunch wrap, the closed side first, to either a panini press or a frying pan (on medium/high heat). Gently press it down and leave it for 2 - 3 minutes before flipping it over. It should be firm and should not open up, keep it to toast longer if necessary. Once both sides are toasted, slice it in half, serve with some potato chips (fries) and enjoy!

DeleteThe cheeseburger crunch wrap looks delicious! I like that you can make them individually, so each person gets a crunch wrap with ingredients they prefer.

DeleteWhat a great way to keep everything tucked in nicely so all the burger fixings dont fall all over the place.
ReplyDeleteExactly, but also it's quite light compared to having a cheeseburger but it has all the flavours of a cheese burger. Perfect for a light and quick meal.
