Baked Jalapeño Poppers
Monday, January 18, 2021But seriously, let me get all Jalapeño your business and tell you that you need to try this Baked Jalapeño Popper recipe as soon as possible. This easy and delicious recipe is a great side dish to make, especially for taco Tuesday or as a side for a Braai/BBQ. I linked down all the side dish recipes I've shared on my blog, which you can also check out.
I will suggest you wear gloves before prepping the jalapeños. This is because your fingers will be burning afterward if you don't, and DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE during this process (lol, sounds a lot like Covid-19 regulations).
I made a Tiktok video of me making this, so if you would like to see it, click here. I also share step-by-step pictures in the method down below. If you want to follow the method without pictures, just scroll down. I share it right after.
INGREDIENTS
7 Jalapeños
170g Cream Cheese (Just close to over 1/2 a tub)
Pinch of Salt
1/2 tsp Lemon Pepper
1 tsp Ground Black Pepper
1/4 tsp Cumin Powder
1 - 2 tsp Mixed Herbs (Dry Rosemary, Dry Thyme, Dry Parsley, and Dry Origanum)
1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
1/2 tsp Onion Powder
2 - 3 Small Freshly Chopped Spring Onions
1/3 Cup Cubed Fried Paloni (you could also use cut up and fried sausages) - optional
1/3 Cup Grated Gouda or Cheddar Cheese
1/3 Cup Grated Mozzarella Cheese
2 - 3 Tbsp Bread Crumbs
Non-Stick Spray
3 - 4 Tbsp Peri-Peri Sauce
4 - 5 Tbsp Mayonaise
METHOD WITH STEP-BY-STEP PICTURES
1. Firstly, make your filling. In a bowl, mix in your cream cheese, spices, herbs, half of the gouda/cheddar cheese, half of the mozzarella cheese, spring onions, and fried cubed paloni (or fried cubed sausages). Once it's all mixed, keep it aside.
2. Time to prep your jalapeños. I suggest you wear gloves because your fingers will be burning afterward if you don't, and DO NOT TOUCH YOUR FACE during this process (lol, sounds a lot like Covid-19 regulations).
3. Slice the Jalapeños lengthwise through the stem. You don't have to cut through the stem as well. I just thought it looks nicer.
4. Now, slice the top part of the stem (like shown in the picture) and pull the seeds out into a separate bowl. The seeds are what will make the jalapeño spicy, so leave any seeds at your own risk.
5. Once you've cleaned all your jalapeños, prep your baking pyrex dish by spraying it with some non-stick spray and turn your oven on to 200 Degrees C.
6. Now fill your jalapeños with the filling you previously prepped and layer onto the baking pyrex dish, filling side upwards.
7. Add the remaining gouda/cheddar and mozzarella cheese on top.
8. When you've finished filling your jalapeños, sprinkle the breadcrumbs over them.
9. Pop your baking dish into the hot oven and leave it to cook for 30 - 40 minutes at 180 Degrees C. I baked it for another 10 minutes because I liked my filling a bit more crispy, as the cheese hardened just a bit.
10. Plate the jalapeño poppers and serve with your go-to dipping sauce. I served it with Perinaise (peri-peri sauce mixed with mayonnaise).

Well, now I need to wipe the drool off of my laptop haha! These look incredible. I absolutely love jalapeño poppers and the idea of baked ones that I can make at home is so appealing. I'll have to try these with my husband sometime soon. Pinned!
